Embodied Processing

 

Embodied Processing is a therapeutic approach that emphasises the connection between the mind and body in the healing process. It is based on the understanding that trauma, stress, and emotional experiences are often stored in the body and addressing these physical manifestations can lead to profound psychological healing. 


Here are the key elements of Embodied Processing:

  1. Body Awareness: Encourages individuals to tune into physical sensations, bodily reactions and emotional states. This awareness helps identify where trauma or stress is held in the body.
  2. Somatic Techniques: Utilises various techniques to help individuals release stored tension and trauma from the body. This can include breathwork, movement, touch and other somatic practices.
  3. Mind-Body Integration: Focuses on integrating the mind and body by acknowledging that emotional and psychological issues often manifest physically. By working with the body, individuals can achieve a more holistic healing experience.
  4. Emotional Regulation: Helps individuals develop skills to regulate their emotions through body-centered practices. This can lead to improved emotional stability and resilience.
  5. Trauma Release: Aims to safely process and release unresolved trauma that is held in the body. This can involve revisiting traumatic memories in a controlled and supportive environment to facilitate healing.
  6. Personalised Approach: Tailors the therapy to each individual’s specific needs and experiences, recognising that each person's body and trauma response are unique.
  7. Empowerment: Empowers individuals with tools and techniques to manage stress and emotional pain on their own, promoting long-term resilience and self-efficacy.
  8. Therapeutic Relationship: Relies on a strong, trusting relationship between the therapist and the client, providing a safe space for exploration and healing.


Embodied Processing can be particularly effective for individuals who have not fully responded to traditional talk therapies, as it addresses the physical dimensions of emotional and psychological issues. By engaging both the mind and body, this approach can lead to deeper, more lasting healing.

our team

Andrea is a qualified social worker and a certified Embodied Processing practitioner. 


Andrea works with people experiencing challenges including anxiety, depression, complex trauma responses and emotional or nervous system dysregulation. 


She is passionate about walking alongside and supporting people through many of the challenges and difficulties they face. This may include exploring thought, belief and behaviour patterns utilising the trauma-informed somatic approach of Embodied Processing. 


Through exploring the patterns and becoming aware of that which no longer serves us well, we can begin a whole new journey of self-knowledge, healing and growth......all filled with self compassion and curiosity.

I loved this session. It was gentle and kind and took me on an interesting journey in my body and I saw images that hadn't come up before. It was quite spiritual and I got some messages that were very interesting for me. Andrea delivered a very professional, calm and beautiful experience. I felt safe with Andrea from the beginning. We connected instantly, and effortlessly moved into my session about the feeling of abandonment Andrea was very skillful in holding space so I could safely travel to places like sorrow and guilt and a bit about my past. She made sure I always anchored back into my resource, her body language, eye contact, smile, warmth, was both inviting and encouraging. The session lasted one hour and was round and complete for now when we ended it together. I'd be happy anytime to reconnect with Andrea and look at certain aspects deeper. I learned a lot from her and felt more supported and got more out of this session than I ever got out of a session with a psychologist. Andrea was great.

Andrea was so gentle, wise and safe. Her compassion is soothing and she held space for me like no one ever has. I was able to open up to explore personal events and emotions. I was able to express my vulnerabilities. I felt physical sensations that I’ve never been able to access while I was in this session. I felt heard, seen and felt. The self discovery was enlightening. I’m looking forward to my next healing session.

Andrea gently and inquisitively guided me, to be with an uncomfortable sensation in the body, which then revealed the deeper layers of emotion and childhood origin. It was a fast deep dive, seamless and then integrated beautifully by the end of the session.

This session was about finding a safe resource, which felt impossible, until it wasn’t because of her gentle skills. I ended up almost falling asleep, I found an unusual and unfamiliar calm state in my body
